Latter-Day Mix-up

On the news you will see a picture of Warren Jeffs advertised as 'Mormon Leader' and in the background you see a picture of the Salt Lake Temple. Then of course the news goes on to say that he is on Americas Top Ten Most Wanted. Now, for those of us educated about the early Church we can understand the Mix-up, but for those who are unfamiliar or even new it may be a cause of great concern with such questions as "How can your leader be a rapist" and so forth. My point in bringing this up is the inevitable persecution that will follow. It is interesting that no matter how hard the Church tries to distance itself from the practise of Plural Marriage that it seems to always come back to the forefront. Do you foresee more persecution around the corner? Is this a possible reason for many being given a greater commitment to read and study the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon? What are your thoughts?

Please Note: This Thread is not about Warren Jeffs, the Topic about him can be covered here: Fundamentalist Latter-Day Saints.

JB, there one group that you are forgetting about. Those who do know early church history and like to cause hate and discontinent, they don't care if it is true or not.

If this keeps up it may become a sore spot for the church even though it's been a good Centery since we last practiced polygamy, the church is still persecuted because we once practiced it. I do believe the best defense we can have is knowledge of the scriptures, if we study has much as we can then no one can sway us, for our foundation will be in truth, based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Today, I was surprised by the amount of emphasis on this in our local Conference - the persecution of the Church to come. Some said it would be getting far worst to the point that many will fall away. Of course we know this from the scripture (the very elect will fall), but we do wonder what inside information may be had. I am not yet party to any immediate harassment, but could it be to the point of public hate towards the Church? Possibly this can happen and many may be afraid to identify their membership.

One thing about fear that is ever evident is the unknown makes many edgy, if people are fed enough information by the Media (sometimes a great liar) then people will begin to believe it and act upon it. Hopefully they will not act to the point of the kind of persecution the Saints received in Missouri and elsewhere.

This may come to pass sooner then we expect. Unfortunately the persecution that we receive will be worse than what Joseph Smith and the early saints received.

Joseph Smith and the Saints experienced death, rape, torture, burnt houses and stolen belongings - what do you think is worst than that for us to face now as far as persecution goes?

All those who have known me for some time will probably already know what I am going to say about this.

I expect that the real persecution will be BY those within the Church AGAINST those who have made the effort to find out exactly what God wants of us in these Last Days.

Most of us within the Church have been so indoctrinated into the "follow the Prophet" mentality that we never stop to ask important questions. If, for example something happened so that the First Presidency and most, if not all, the Quorum of the Twelve were killed, along with most, if not all, the Seventy, who would we follow? That is the point. We have become followers only.

The Church is already in persecution mode, at least to a certain extent. The Church is actively involved in the persecutions of the fundamentalists (all forms, not just the FLDS). The Church has given money to an anti-polygamist group that is as horrible in its way as any anti-Mormon group.

Anyway, just my opinion. All good people will face persecution in the days to come. Only those who have sought out the guidance of the Lord ahead of time to prepare, and have actively sought out His will as to where they should be for refuge will be spared a portion of that persecution.

And, I still have a long way to go in this regard.

Well, we have covered that extensively in the Mature LDS Board and this Thread is more about those persecuting the Church as opposed to those who let ignorance overwhelm them.

With regards to the supporting anti-Polygamy groups are you saying that this will in some respect backfire on the Church or just cause an equal force to be used against the Church?

I think that the Church is wrong in this action, and that it will come back to haunt those who are involved in it.
