Ouch, that was harsh JB. I do agree there was a lot of gore and blood. At least they made the really gory scene black and white so you weren't seeing the red blood spraying around. I also liked the Chapter format of the movie and once again, Tarantino uses mixed timelines to portray the story (similar to Pulp Fiction). As for the Matrix moves, 90% of the action movies being released these days are utilizing the special effects seen in the Matrix movies, so it is almost expected.
Yes, it was harsh - the reason I rented the movie in the first place was because everyone in the public arena was talking about how good it was, but after watching I was sorely disappointed. I am not sure if this was made in Japan or by a Japanese production team, but it most definitely follows that style (blood, especially spraying blood).
I really liked the movie. It was not a Japanese production, as far as I know, but it was rather a satire on that style of movies; endless blood and fights, the comics story, exaggerated and eccentric characters. If you look at it from that point of view, it is really enjoyable. It is not a masterpiece, there is not any deep message behind it, but still I liked it. I don't believe it was bad acting, but rather intended stereotypes.
My rating (in the forum's system): 2
I found that the acting was only so so. I didn't find it as horrible as JB, but it surely wasn't great. The premise of the film was very much centered around the action and violence of the film. The movie met its desired affect in that it portrayed a violent and bloody lifestyle of the assassin.
I liked the movie enough to rent the second one. It was alright. Over all I liked the series, but it wasn't anything spectacular like it was billed.

There was a lot of blood and gore, but I definitely enjoyed the movie. I have also seen KBII. Dont let your impressions of KBI keep you from seeing the sequel. They are definitely different movies and the 2nd one does a very nice job of completing the story. As for KBI, the action sequences were excellent. This movie was a homage to the great kung fu and action movies of the past, but with a twist. I thought the choice of using David Carridine was really a stretch that paid off. Tarantino has done this with a few actors now that people thought were washed up...John Tavolota (pulp fiction).
However, let this be a warning...if you are watching a Tarantino movie...there will be a lot of blood and gore! He seems to like it (resevoir dogs, pulp fiction, kill bill, kill bill II and a couple of vampire movies I cant remember the name of).
Just my opinion,
Vincenzo
I finally saw the second movie, and since a thread was not started for Vol 2, I'll just change the title of this thread to reflect both movies. I have to admit I liked the first movie better, but I was glad to see more information and background on the shooting scene from the 1st. The theme of the first movie was definitely a samurai one, while the second was more western themed. Overall, I give the series 2
