RETAINING TEACHERS IS GOAL
Fifty percent. That's the percentage of teachers who quit the classroom within the first seven years of entering the profession. And that's created quite a problem for school administrators: How to keep good teachers from leaving for less-stressful, higher-paying jobs in other fields.

The problem is that we continue to pay teachers crap, take away their power in the classroom, and create rules that put them in jeopardy in the classroom. The way education is now centered sets teachers up to fail at their positions or at least be entirely ineffective. I don't know about around the world, but in the US, teachers are not allowed to do anything that might "hurt the kids feelings". This also includes any scolding that may not be good for their self esteem. In fact, most of these things where considered personal constructive criticism in my day and it was recommended that I listen to the teachers when they where gracious enough to give it to me. Now the teachers are the ones on the defensive instead of misbehaving students. Until this problem is rectified, teaching is going to be a position that is simply used as a temporary position to get somewhere else where the grass is greener and true teachers can be allowed to truly make a difference.
I definetly agree with everything that Konquererez said. Teachers are not being paid what they deserve and every day they have less and less authority in the classroom. Principals in general sometimes are not very supportive (although right now I have a great principal who is very supportive) and it really creates a bad athmosphere between the teachers and the administration.
I am a teacher so I am speaking through experience . The children are becoming more rude and the parents becoming even more rude than the children and sometimes the school system fails in disciplining the children and the teacher is the one that has to deal with all these issues. It is not easy to retain teachers if the system allow students to be in control of the classroom, it is not easy to retain teachers if you pay them a salary that will not allow them to even pay the basic utilities, it is not easy to retain a teacher until EVERYONE realises that without teachers there could not exist doctors, lawyers, judges, and so on.
I agree with what you had to say about retaining teachers. You are right they do get paid less. My wife made it a goal to not bring work home she is at the school from 7:00am to sometimes 5:00pm just trying to get things in order. I see her get stressed and I do feel for her. When she first started teaching she would bring loads of work home and being a very creative person she can't help but make resources for her student use, especially if it is not found at the school.
We trust teachers with our children for up to 6 hours a day to cater for their needs and learning. It's no wonder teachers leave the country or change careers...we need to keep them by listening to their needs......as good teachers are hard to retain. What does this say about how we want our future leaders to be?
