This Thread deals with an aspect of attitude among certain Members of the Church who consider themselves 'Mormons', but yet do things that are severely unbecoming of a Member of the Church. I see a lot of these on MySpace. It is amazing to see them talk about the Church and proclaim a love for the Book of Mormon and yet still have many sexual innuendos or even direct materials like porn published on the same page. Why do they do this? Why do they make references to the Church and at the same time without shame do things in direct opposition to the Church's teachings?

Well, there are two reasons in my opinion:

1. They are not really members of the Church and for some reason they are trying to put the Church down by adding that kind of information on the site since there is not really a way to find out whether they are members or not.

2. They think they are "cool". There are a group of people within the Church (I met several of them) who think that when you try to do your best in following the teachings of the Gospel, they label you too "Mormony" or a "Fanatic". These same people has no problem to curse, to openly rebel, to dress immodestly and do other things that go against the teachings we receive.

Although, I agree some of them may be not Mormons, I am more inclined to believe your quote above. I see this mostly happening in North America too where the pressure to 'be cool' is very strong if you are a sociable person. The interesting thing about it is that these people really do not see how ridiculous they look - I do not even know if I would consider them 'lukewarm' just because they try to sit on both fences at the same time. My main problem is not with 'how they want to be', my concern is that they publish these things - it is as though they are acting as 'another kind of missionary'.
