Recently I've noticed a TREND toward activity in the church. We have some examples here in the forum -- myself, tenaheff, AGene -- who all were inactive at some point (and for a long time) but felt impressed and even compelled to return to Church activity in the past few years. Now I've met another woman who was inactive for many years, her husband is a non-member, and yet she felt a great sense of urgency to become active again and to receive her temple recommend and endowment (which she did last year).
Has anyone else noticed a trend toward reactivation? What about other groups besides our "female, mid-forties" group?

I cannot say that I have seen this as a recent trend, but I do no know that after some years members who go less active often find themselves 'missing something'. Then they compare how they felt in the Church to how they feel now (outside the Church environment) and decide to go back. Usually this is initated through some kind of contact with a member they knew when active even if the contact is not an official visit, the simple "Hello, how are you doing?" works wonders.
I have noticed that in my Branch that there are a few more inactives who have become active again. In the same breath we have had some members who have become inactive too My Branch has more inactives than actives ~ pretty sorry state isn't it?? We gain some inactives, we lose some to inactivity.
I don't think this is really a trend. What I think it is FarSeer, is that since 'we' are active again, we are more alert/aware of those who are coming back to Church, becoming active again. I, personally, have felt this.
I also am more attuned to those who are recent converts. I don't want them to feel like they are the "odd" man out, or to feel like a Newbie for months and months.

However, it may be possible that there is an increased number returning to activity than has in the past. I wonder if anyone keeps that statistic. |
Perilous times are all around us and even the less active members are noticing the way the world is becoming. Nowadays people refer to something good as evil and that which is evil as good. Less actives often recall a place where they could go where rules and trends aren't set by fashion or popularity and so they seek after the peace they need in their life through partaking of the sacrament to renew their covenant.
I am only 22 and was inactive for 1 1/2 yrs due to an illness, htouh now I see this as no excuse. I felt compelled to return to church at the start of this year and in the past ocuple of months we have had at 2 more inactive families return, even though we are a small ward. I don't think compel is too strong a word, if I could think of a stronger one I would use it as my illness made me have panic attacks at the thought of having to leave the house. Even at this I still woke up and, as I said in my testimony I had to go that day. I don't think it's so much a trend it's maybe just we were going through some things and in some way the Spirit touched us made us remember are covenants.
