Question asked in another thread: Is it hypocritical for countries like Israel, Britain and the US to complain about countries possessing nuclear warfare when they are armed to their teeth with this technology?
I think it is. With one, maybe two possible exceptions. Basically, I think every country has the right to arm themselves however they feel is in the best interest of their country. Period. The US has many powerful weapons and I think they have every right to them. I think, though, that this right extends to all other nations as well.
Now, the problem is, if I feel you are a threat to me, then I may take action to prevent that threat. In other words, if I am Israel, I probably will do all that I can do to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons because I would consider it a direct threat to me. Yet, this is likely to be another cold war situation like the US and USSR had for so long. Do you really think Iran would use them against Israel when Israel could just use them right back?
The bigger problem is with terrorists getting them. I think it possible that Iran might even aid the terrorists in getting the nukes so they could be used against Iran and then claim they had nothing to do with it so that Israel wouldn't retaliate.
I see no valid reason to prevent N. Korea from getting them. I don't see N. Korea as a direct threat to the US. If I were in S. Korea, I would likely see things differently. However, I am a bit of an isolationist, personally. I don't want to fight everyone elses battles.
What do you think.
