ADOBE TO BUY MACROMEDIA
By acquiring rival software maker Macromedia Inc. in a deal originally valued at $3.4 billion, Adobe Systems Inc. is positioning itself to do battle with Microsoft Corp. over the tools to create, distribute and manage content online.

This is absolutely huge in the software market! Macromedia has made the best graphics programs for a long time now. Products like flash and fireworks will add to an already strong Adobe company. Adobe makes the best electronic document software out there. With its ease of use to make an ebook, they look to be on top for a while. Combining the two makes for a formidable company to handle. I wonder if, with the merger, we will possibly see the combining of ebooks and flash graphics. That would be something I would pay to be able to do.
I am not that impressed by Adobe, even though they have a huge market with the PDF file format and Acrobat Reader. I agree Flash is poised to be THE graphics staple, and it was in Adobe's best interest to acquire. I just hope they don't try to improve on a product that is already, in my opinion, very good.
