This is a first-person account of a modern-day pirate attack off the coast of Yemen. So, I started searching the news (on Google) for pirate attacks. It seems that piracy is a fairly common crime these days, but nothing like the "romance" of the movies. These seem to be well-organized, ruthless criminals.
I salute the captains of the two yachts who wiped out the pirates in this story. I just wish the yachts had been more appropriately armed. The shotgun was a great move, but if the pirates had been a little more on the ball, it would have ended much differently.
Here are a couple more links about this problem.

After reading the last one, I really think that oil tankers and other commercial craft in these dangerous waters are going to have to provide their own security. That means that they will have to arm themselves.

I have to say that I really didn't think that pirates still existed. I thought that piracy in the modern era referred to copying and distributing copy righted software. The idea that real pirates still existed never even crossed my mind.
This story is actually a very heroic tale of the people on the yatchts. This is a regular modern day tale of high seas heroism and pirates! Though I must admit that this true story is somewhat less romantic than the stories that I see in the movies.
It seems that there has been Piracy in all times and seasons of this world and now with it not only being a sea bound thing it also occours in all aspects of this world from duplicating video's to music as well as kidnapping on the lands. If we were ever to know just how much piracy there was in the world then we would be to afraid to do anything with armed guards and experts in every field. like car buying, household items, and even in medicine doctors and pills. about the only thing we can do is to stay close to Heavenly Father and not become a people that are worldly, and use common sense.

The Island of Trinidad is located only eight miles off the coast of Venezuela and a frequent occurence for the local inhabitants of South Trinidad is to be intercepted by Venezuelan Pirates who take their boat and supplies and leave them to drift, dead or if they are lucky - they just take their engine and supplies and leave them in the boat, so it is a regular occurence here, but then again we are in the Caribbean - the turf of Pirates both in history and now!
