This is Islam

I watched it, and found it very interesting. However, I must disagree with some of the assertions. While I can agree that terrorism may not be taught explicitly in the Koran, almost all of the terrorist attacks of the last two to four decades have been performed in the name of Islam.
This is one of a VERY few Muslims I have ever heard assert that the terrorist are not properly Muslims, and that they are cowards. I applaud the person who made this presentation.
In response to your post night hawk, I felt obligated to post this, so that you can understand the Quran and Islam, and what they teach about terrorism.
After reading this, if you have any questions... feel free.
Also, if you would like me to explain any of the verses of the Quran, I would LOVE to do this.Terrorists take these verses and make them into horrible horrible verses, but there is a context for every single verse which I will explain to you as soon as you ask. The article I want to post is kind of long, so I will post it in two posts. thanks

Jihad Explained by Dr. M. Amir Ali, Ph.D. In the linguistic sense, the Arabic word "jihad" means struggling or striving and applies to any effort exerted by anyone. In this sense a student struggles and strives to get an education and pass course work; an employee strives to fulfill his/her job and maintain good relations with his/her employer; a politician strives to maintain or increase his popularity with his constituents and so on. The term strive or struggle may be used for/by Muslims as well non-Muslims; for example, Allah, One and Only True God says in the Qur'an: "We have enjoined on people kindness to parents; but if they strive (jahadaka) to make you ascribe partners with Me that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not..." 29:8, also see 31:15. |

Spreadpeace, most of us understand that Islam is not about terrorists as depicted in the flash presentation. However, I believe Nighthawk's point of view is that there is more of the 'bad' presented than the 'good' when you turn on your television or listen to the news. For instance you will not hear a major cleric aggressively speaking against terrorism, it seems all the opposite.
Offtopic but, Please look over your intro thread for posting tips and the Constructive posting policy, we may do things a little different that you are used to. This is so order is maintained in this large International Community. Thanks. |
Personally, I didn't like the video. I thought it could have been better presented, as the videos on other sites are. However, since we can't post links, I don't know how one shares that info with others, unless they are a moderator.
I believe Sheik Khalid Yasin said it best when introducing one of his lectures on "The Purpose of Life" He said: "... How many of you actually KNOW about Islam, not how many of you know a muslim, or what the TV tells you about Islam, or what the newspaper says that Islam is, or any of this. Because a Muslim is not Islam, and Islam cannot be judged by the behaviour of muslims..."
Offtopic but, If I take the actions of a Catholic involved with the IRA, and the actions of some priests, and say: "Wow, them catholics are some crazy, pedophilic, bomb crazy terrorists" I do the faith, its adherents and humanity in general a grave injustice. Because I judge the many on the actions of a few. |
IsaMuslim, so what is your critique about the video then that makes it dysfunctional in it's purpose. Just saying that you "didn't like it" does not say much. In fact, the link was obtained from another Muslim group where it was thought that it was fantastic.
Offtopic but, You can post links as references only to non-commercial sites, please see the FAQ Board and look for the Topic: "Posting to External Sites" to understand how this is done. |
