12-year-old girl charged with stabbing classmate appears in court

Prosecutors say the girl brought a knife to school in a shoe box and attacked a 12-year-old boy. She is now named in a juvenile petition for attempted murder. They were classmates at Aptakisic Junior High in Buffalo Grove.

It was disclosed that the state had read the defendant's journals and she confessed to thoughts of suicide and homicidal thoughts toward herself and her family and had engaged in act of self-mutilation. The judge decided to keep the defendant in secure detention because the court found the actions were premeditated and this would be best for her safety and the safety of the victim and the public at large.

A Friend

Old Year Stabs Year

After reading this article fully, there is no doubt in my mind that she in mentally unstable. Her journal shows violent thoughts and actions towards herself, her family, and her friends. There is obviously something wrong with her mentally. The question now should be how this can best be handled. Throwing her in jail for the rest of her life does no one any good. She needs help while she is serving her sentence in a Juvenile detention center. She shouldn't be tried as an adult, but as a young girl who needs some serious mental help.
