King Soloman

In the Bible it speaks of the great wisdom of King Soloman and yet he made many very unwise choices (a fondness for foreign gods and women) that led to even his soul being jeopardy - so was he really as wise as most readers think?

The reality of King Solomon is that he was not actually very wise at all. He has a couple wise decisions and is considered wise. While he asked God for wisdom, he either didn't receive it, or mis used it. The bible says that God blessed Solomon because he asked for wisdom, but that really isn't the case. Solomon inherited a great kingdom and made it greater. His down fall was his lust for women and riches. He very obviously makes very bad decisions that lead to the ultimate dispersal of Israel because he fails to train his sons to take over because he is more concerned with his thousands of wives and concubines (which are against Gods law) and his love for riches, building a huge gold and jewelry laden temple for Israels God and for other gods as well. For most of Solomons reign, he wasn't even monotheistic, he served many Gods. God didn't bless him, he blessed himself and the wisdom story was added later in the form of oral urban legend until it was eventually written down. But you can see from what was remembered that he really wasn't godly, wise, or even very smart.
