Well it is good that at least someone took the time to collect them (instead of steal them) as I am also amazed that such things were actually recoverable from that level of destruction, but how are they going to get that returned to the correct owners? I guess it will be a case of a loved one really being able to identify a piece of jewelry.
World Trade Center Jewelry Recovery website
Our goal as members of the Property Clerk Division of the New York City Police Department is to return the property recovered as a result of the World Trade Center disaster to its rightful owner. To that end, this website has been developed to assist you in notifying the Property Clerk Division of the possibility that you or a loved one may be the rightful owner of jewelry which was recovered and safeguarded by the Property Clerk Division.

Wow, I cant believe someone actually took the time to do this. It will actually be interesting to see how much of it gets claimed legitimately. I'm sure some will try to steal, but others my find family keep sakes to remember their fallen relatives by. This maybe a good chance for some to find closure in this ordeal.
