The chance of death is real for any soldier, citizen or not. Offering a soldier accelerated citizenship doesn't harm them. It is up to them if they consider the risk worth it or not. What the country is saying is, "if you are willing to fight for and possibly die for this county, then you are entitled to be a citizen of it."

I see nothing wrong with this.

When I was in the Marine Corps, there was a woman from England in as well. She had a green card, but her service in the military didn't give her any special rights for accelerated citizenship. I think it should have.

Papa is just grieving. I would too. And sometimes we have the need to blame somebody. But his son saw an opportunity and took it. It was a risk. This kid had guts... the grit... the sand... the the pioneer spirit that made this country great that, alas, I fear, we are losing.

He wanted a better life... I mean... Why do so many come to Estados Unidos? It is opportunity like no other. And a stint in the Marines held that promise for him.

There is risk in any venture as our history tells us. I pray this poor man who lost his son comes to terms that all life is in God's hands and his kid could have just as easily been killed on the streets of LA or Mexico City where in my opinion, the risk can be just as great.

I was until very recently in the United States Navy. During my enlistment I have met many so called "green card" Marines and Sailors. I had one for a roommate even. It used to bother me that we had so many of these people serving until I met my last roommate who we will call Guad.(His nickname) This kid was from mexico and really very intelligent. He could have been anything he wanted to be. He was a kind, honest, sincere and very caring. I was glad to call him my friend.

I got to thinking why we had so many foreigners in the service. My opinion is that if we did not have these people that recruitment numbers would go way down and possibly revive the draft. I say this because from what I saw with my own two eyes. What I saw was a large number of immigrant volunteers.

I'd like to say I feel for this man who lost his son. I am sorry for his loss. It pulls at my heart to see his misdirected anger and I hope he can reach a resolution in his heart.
