No they know what they are doing just we forget we are no longer 20 so it is ok to slow down and take a few minutes longer. Using the correct shovel is also part of it.

Keeping a drive way clear of snow and your body in once piece is not as easy as you think. Perhaps a separate thread on that might be better.

People do not understand that different snows weight differently thus while one light snow can be cleared easily but a heavy wet snow can give you a serious workout. I have cleared my drive in less than a half a hour during a light snow and over 2 hours in a wet heavy snow.

The first thing... Stretch! Your body is probably cold and you are going out into the cold to start a job, make sure and get your muscles loose. Touch your toes and hold for at least 20 seconds so when you start to shovel it your body will be prepped to take the stress.

I am going to post stretching in a different board and like your thoughts muscled.

But for those in warm climates the big issue is massive heart attacks. People are out of shape and hit that heavy wet snow like they are fit and this is the biggest issue I hear of. Back strain is big too but much less of a concern. So use a smaller shovel or less in the one you have it is not a race. Oh yes and get up earlier so you have time to clear the snow.
