Little-known fault threatens big LA disaster-study
WASHINGTON, May 25 (Reuters) - A little-known fault that runs under Los Angeles into its suburbs could cause the costliest earthquake in U.S. history and kill as many as 18,000 people if it shifts, geologists said on Wednesday.

Its interesting that it comes out about a fault line under Los Angeles. Several years back I saw a made for tv movie that plotted out the same type of scenario in which a fault that was previously unknown was discovered. The fault went off just days after its discovery causing the biggest disaster in US history. This fault was also right under LA county and ran through primarily residential areas. It makes you wonder if someone already knew and the idea was to break the news that LA could have an earthquake and fall off into the ocean nice and slowly. Makes you wonder if the reality is that it could go at any time and they will break that to us in a couple years nice and slowly so that there isn't a panic.
