
30th Lutheran church congress begins
Hannover. With the biblical motto "When your children ask you in time to come...", the 30th Lutheran church congress began today. Approximately 100,000 visitors are expected at the gathering, which lasts until Sunday. At the opening services this evening, in addition to German president Koehler and Chancellor Schroeder, among others who have said they will attend are CDU leader Merkel and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fischer. Among the most important topics for the meetings during the church congress is the future of ecumenical relations now that Pope Benedict XVI has taken office, as well as social questions in connection with the upcoming parliamentary elections.
