It has been said many times, but I'll say it again. The humidity and mugginess is wretched. Being in Florida, it gets outright disgusting to step outside the door. I also have no air conditioning in my car, and my car is black, so that just makes matters worse. When it is extremely hot, I just feel dirty all the time.
My hate isn't directed at the heat itself, but at what is done to counteract the heat. Air conditioning. Everyone feels the need to make it freezing cold inside because it's hot outside. Then I end up carrying a sweater around with me, which feels silly in 100 degree weather.
Heat also tends to give me headaches.
I live in Phoenix and I work outside and I LOVE the heat. Here the heat is not so bad because we have no humidity ( I feel for you guys in Florida). I can work 8 hours in temperatures below 110 degrees after the mercury rises above that there is not much you can do. Here is how I do it. First, I completely cover up in white, cotton clothing: long sleaves, pants, and huge hat. Dress in layers: under your white covering wear another cotton outfit to retain your sweat. Believe it or not wearing 2 layers of clothes helps you stay cool if the outside temperature is above about 105. Your body temperature is 98 degrees and the outside temperature is say 108 degrees, your internal layer of clothing is soaked with sweat and your outside layer is dry from the sun, bingo you have a crude evaporative cooler. The most important note of all is to drink WATER (not coke, tea or sports drinks) constantly.
Like others I would say I personally dislike humidity because there is no escape.
What I hate about the heat is when out of state visitors come to our city and not knowing the effects of the desert heat: they die. It seems like every year someone or a family from the Midwest comes to Phoenix and dies on a desert hike
Offtopic but, I hope I'm not being to morbid or serious: one of my many flaws |
I can't add much to this one, as Farseer, was spot on with my thoughts, and 'took the words out of my mouth'
I do find it hard to keep trying to remember to 'top up' on putting the sun lotion on though, and I always try to park my car in the shade, but normally this isn't possible *laughs*
