Q. What is a constructive message? A. A message that makes sense and adds a valuable contribution to the subject matter of the thread. In other words do not just post to say you agree with the subject, but why you agree! |
Or disagree.
QUOTE |
Q. What may be constructive for me may not be for someone else right? A. True, but there is a limit. Someone may not think what you have said is important or valuable, but if they can make sense of what you said then it was probably worth it. |
I thought I was doing all that. I like to think people "can make sense of" what I say. I am usually replying to a statement made earlier in the thread. My posts tend to be quite long. That is because I like to develop an argument and to provide the reasons for my argument.
I try to keep on topic, but sometimes I use examples that are not directly related to illustrate an aspect of the argument.
For example, in one post about muslims, I mention white supremacists - which may be seen as off topic. But I try to demonstrate the connection between the two, so that my position on muslims is clarified by the white supremacist statement.
I wouldn't consider that off topic.
I try to keep on topic, but sometimes I use examples that are not directly related to illustrate an aspect of the argument.
When I do use the OFFTOPIC tags, I thought I was using them correctly.
I will try harder in future, but my posts tend to be longer than the average post and can, therefore, cover more subject matter than usual. I wouldn't want to have to curtail my arguments.

I assume that you are referring to my endorsement of the urban legends website. If that was wrong, then I'm sorry.
Anyway, I will take take your comments on board and try to do better in
future.
