Pesticide exposure linked to increased risk of ALS
Survey data suggest reported cumulative pesticide exposure was associated with increased risk of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive and fatal neurodegenerative disease, say investigators. Ref. Source 9f.
What Is the Cause of ALS?
Lou Gehrig’s disease, known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, strikes healthy, middle-aged people seemingly at random. Of the major neurodegenerative diseases, it has the least hope for treatment and survival. Although mental capabilities stay intact, ALS paralyzes people, often from the outside in, and most patients die within three years when they can no […] Ref. Source 4x.
Foods Linked to ALS
Foods Linked to ALSAs explored in my video ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease): Fishing for Answers, there may be a link in the consumption of the neurotoxin BMAA, produced by algae blooms, and increased risk of ALS. It now appears that BMAA could be found in high concentrations in aquatic animals in many areas of the world. This could […] Ref. Source 2e.
Discovery of a promising medication for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)

A drug used to treat schizophrenia has the potential to slow the progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease for which there is currently no effective cure. After six years of research on several animal models and a few patients, researchers discovered that pimozide stabilizes the disease in the short term. A clinical trial must confirm the efficacy and safety of the drug before it is offered to patients. Source 9o.
Low muscle strength identified as early risk factor for ALS. Low muscle strength during the later teen years has been identified as a risk factor for much later onset of the neurological disease known as ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. A study also links low blood counts at a young age to ALS. Source 1q.
