QUOTE (Deseret News) |
President Gordon B. Hinckley, who led The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through explosive growth during his more than 12 years as president, died at 7 p.m. today of causes incident to age, surrounded by family. He was 97. |
Sad news. Many people may think it was obviously expected because of his age but the shocking feeling never leaves when a dear one departs. I have no doubts he is so happy, specially because he is now reunited to his sweetheart Marjorie. We love you Pres. Hinckley!

President Gordon B. Hinckley's funeral expected for Saturday.
QUOTE |
The day after President Gordon B. Hinckley's passing, questions about what happens next are surfacing. His death will also mean a major change in the leadership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. President Hinckley's funeral will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday Morning in the Conference Center. Holding the funeral there will break tradition, as the Tabernacle has been the place where the funeral of every president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, going back to Brigham Young, has been held. President Hinckley's body will also lie in state at the Church Administration Building on Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. so that mourners can come and pay their last respects. We do know he will be buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery next to his wife, Marjorie, who passed away in April 2004. A granite marker was installed not far from their graves a couple of years ago, honoring President Hinckley's service as the 15th president of the Church. |
