Germany Defeats Australia 4:3

Frankfurt/Main. The German national soccer team began its run at the Confederations Cup with an arduous victory. The team of Federal trainer Klinsmann was successful against Australia with a narrow 4:3 victory. Goal scorers for Germany were Kuranyi, Mertesacker, Ballack (penalty kick), and Podolski. The Australians, however, twice overcame German leads, capitalizing on German defensive weaknesses.

I saw the game and I think the German team is prepared both physically and mentally to win the next year's World Cup (although I'm not their fan). It looks like under Klinsman's coaching they rediscovered the joy of playing. Still, I want to say that the Australians were a nice surprise to me: athletic, courageous and well-arranged in the field. Overall, a good match.

Well if the Austrailians could do so well against Germany then it would be nice to see them qualify for 2006. Arvhic did mention them (Australians) in another post that they were capable of taking on the bigger teams and this is a true showing of that.

Cup Confederations

Argentina is in the Semi-Finals after beating Australia 4-2. We are in group A like Germany and both countries have 6 points. Germany is a great team but I know Argentina can win this Cup.

Cup Confederations

Congratulations to Germany and Argentina, they deserve to progress.

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with Australia's play in both games because they have conceded 8 goals in two games. This doesn't bode well for our World Cup qualifiers.

Against Germany we should have got a draw but some terrible marking cost us dearly. I also felt that Germany's penalty was milked and another referee would have booked the player for diving.

Argentina are clearly a class above and deserved their win. But the refereeing was a disgrace. Mark Viduka had one of the most blatant penalties turned down, there was no way it could have been anything else and it was at a crucial point in the game. Some of the Argentinian interplay was just too slick for our ageing defence and our midfield players aren't tracking. I love watching the South American teams play, they are a joy.

But the Australians, who made the final of the first Confederations Cup against Brazil, have proved they can take on the top teams and come back from behind. Just need to shore up the rear-guard with fresh blood.

BTW I have to say Brazil are absolutely amazing, did anyone see their goals against Greece. They are my early prediction for next year's World Cup, Sorry LSD they are stronger than four years ago.

I agree that Brasil is a phenomenal team - after the match with Greece, their coach sad that the weather was great, the team played very well and he should have gone to drink a bear instead of staying on the bench (he was kidding, of course). Still, in the last game against Argentina, they were caught "with their pants down". Especially in the first half. On the other hand, if the brazilians have a good day, no one can stop them.

I just realized no one posted the final results of the Confederation Cup here, so I will do so now, very, very late. Brazil ended up defeating arch-rivals Argentina (sorry to rehash the pain LDS_forever) 4-1 to a crowd of about 575,000 people. Adriano had 2 goals to give him 5 for the tournament and the golden shoe award. Ronaldinho added one and so did Kaka. Aimar was the lone bright spot for Argentina with a goal in the 65th minute.
