Remote Control

Community Remote Control

We have so many features here that even the Architect has trouble keeping track of it all. Of recent he has been considering the use of something that works similar to a 'remote control'. In web terms it operates in the form of a long scrollable remote of links to all the features within the Community. It can remain open or closed as the case may be and can help you to find a link instantly by means of category selection.

Would this be something helpful for you or just another 'extra' that you may never use? Place your comments as replies along with what you might like to have the 'remote control' do..

Control Remote

I would probably never use it. However, without seeing what it is exactly, I can't be sure.

I do use the tab on the right hand side of the executive skin that takes me straight to the Forum Shop. I might use something that took me quickly to the Medeival Market and Party Stats. I know you can get to them quickly from within the RPG board too.

I don't think I would use that. I do like the tabs and use them quite often. I also use the your location links as a short cut to get to and from the main page quickly.

Control Remote

Okay so, no one thinks it will be useful which I understand because you both are proficient in Computers and probably used to the Community already, but from all the feedback I am getting from the novice users I decided to create it anyway. Two good things will come from it:

1. Less cutter above
2. A handy device suitable for both the pro and novice

Those of you who have the Executive Skin can test it already. You will see a new tab to the right, click on it and then make a selection from the remote - nice eh? I will be adding even more features to it soon. Again, Executive Skin users will also notice less clutter above so not as much scrolling to do.

Offtopic but, I will be adding this to the other Skins later today if I get a chance.

Control Remote

I tried it out, and it seems to be a useful tool. I do have the Executive Skin, and I've been able to move around ok, the remote seems to be a nice extra. I feel that I can get to what I want to get to in the same speed without it, but it's nice to know it's there.

Well JB, I tried it out and I think it's pretty cool, but I'm not sure I'll use it very much because I already know my way around the forum. It could be useful to newbies, though.

Just a thought - maybe you should make the tab a little bigger, so it will draw more attention.

We seem to have good navigators among us, good, however keep in mind that the Remote is not yet finished. Right now I am implementing it in all the skins and then when that is done I will continue to upgrade it. You are only seeing about 50% of the offerings so far and I am sure if you click on each link carefully after I am finished you will realize that there are certain place you just have never been in the Community. Stay tuned.

RaulDrake, as far as the tab being bigger... I want to maintain a unison of size, but will add something special to the Welcome Board so newbies can see it, thanks for the heads up though.

Right now, the tab is smaller than the other tabs. The different color makes it stand out, which is helpful.

I did like the fact that it provides an easy way to the member directory. I always have to search all over to find it.
