Living With Autism At 11 Years Old

Living with autism is like you are seeing everything so different, so confusing and people are expecting you to be non-autistic like them.

I see this world like a world of confusion and sometimes when I see things, I expect to see something in my way but it's not like that and sometimes it makes me feel angry, hyper and annoyed.

Also, I expect things in an "imaginary" way. Sometimes when I chat with my friend Alex (who is also autistic) when he likes to pretends, I love that as well and that's what some high functioning kids like to do.

My life may be confusing, different and everything else but I have to go on to be like those non-autistic people. I want to be like them.

Felipe, I just want to hug you! You sound so much like my son Ian who is 12. He plans on being a paleontologist and a zoologist, so he like to act out animals and dinosaurs. He can teach anyone about those subject. Ian sees everyone as a potential friend, but gets very upset when people don't follow the rules. I wish he had someone like you around to be a friend. I think you would be great friends.

I have an adult friend who is autistic, too. He gets very angry because they didn't treat autistic kids well when he was a child. He is a very smart guy, but he needs his friends to understand him. Sometimes he can't give an expected answer to social questions. If you ask him how bad a picture is, he wont tell you it's good to be polite. He will give an honest critique. And that is great! As long as you understand his is not trying to insult you.

Thank you for sharing your story, Felipe! You are not alone there are lots of wonderful Autistic kids out there.

My son's brother (1/2) is autistic. He's 5. Just by the composition of you post you can tell that you do quite well with your autism. Keep up the good Work. I'm sure it can get lonely at times. I know that feeling too. God loves you. I hope you are blessed with some good friends in the years to come.

Miriavas, thanks for the comment. I want to be a scientist. I like to chat, email and talk to other people. Some autistic children don't feel comfortable talking to others but I'm not like that. Sometimes I do feel like that but not all the time.
Do you think Ian would be interested in emailing/chatting with me? I have an online friend also called Alex who has Aspergers.

PGFracing, thanks for your comment. I will keep the good work, hopefully I will have some good friends when I grow up. I also hope that your nephew will mature and have a good life. smile.gif

Hi Felipe, I am so happy you are talking with other kids like your self who are struggling with this disability. It is good for you to know you are not the only one and you can share your experiences with them.
I love so much you are such a great kid.
Love Aunt Anna

Living With Autism At 11 Years Old

Thank you PaintingBlue. Well, I am not 11 years old anymore, I am a teenager now. After some years of progress, I have gained a lot of information and the way I think now is way more different than I was 11 years old. But still, there is still some traits and problems that continues to remain.
