How did you first get involved with the game of chess? Do you remember who introduced you to it or were you self taught? What age did you start and when do you think you really begun to have control over the game?
My father taught me about the game of chess. I was about 12 when I first took an interest in the game. I went on to play all through high school and even play in a few tournaments. I used to play allot with my dad also, he used to beat me allot, but I got good enough that I started winning all the games. Now, I haven't played in a long time, so I don't know how good I am.
I honestly don't recall how I learned to play, only that I've been playing since I was very young, maybe 6 years old. In junior high, I was in the chess club, but not long after that I stopped playing on a regular basis. Frankly, I was never very good at the strategy end of the game.
I taught my son to play when he was only 6 or 7, and he loves chess! He's not a super strong player, but he does well enough. My daughter (who is nearly 8) hasn't quite grasped the concepts yet, but we'll try again in a year or two.
