You scope the area some more, looking all around, but nothing of significance is apparent save for how alone you are and the obvious carrions circling above. You make your way to the spot where Scout originally pointed.
After shifting your perspective somewhat you see what looks like a walkable place that could take you further into the mountain. No horse can journey there, and you will have to be light since it looks like you may at certain points have to negotiate your way between rocks and steep inclines. However, none of this is sure to you, because from your current position your vision is limited.
GM: Say what you will do now.
You decide that Tortdog will watch the horses and equipment below while the rest of you try to climb the mountain via the hopeful path. Tortdog looks for a place to be with the horses, but there is no such place and because there are no trees you wonder what you are going to do to keep the horses at bay. The South Mountains are not welcoming at all and the sun hits you steady without remorse.
Daphne and Kalfie approach the path not far from where Tortdog watches on with the reigns of the horses in his hand. The mountain path's slope goes up about 10 feet and then round a large bolder that cuts your view from the rest of the mountain above. You approach with weapons in hand but after peering over the boulder you realize that to make it up the mountain you will need both hands free. You also realize that it may have been once passed before, but it was not meant to be a free travel area. You start to wonder how Scout even knew of it being a possibility for reaching the top.
You look up and see that you will almost be parallel with the mountain's surface for this climb. It will not be easy in the least and you start to consider both your climbing skills and necessary equipment used for climbing. The birds still circle high above.
GM: I need to know exactly what Daphne and Kalfie has on them and where it will be kept since if you climb you will need your hands free. Say what you will do now.
From Tortdog's position and perspective he does not see anything more than Daphne and Kalfie does. Tortdog moves around a bit looking for signs of movement or travel routes while atop his horse holding the reigns of two of his companion's horses at the same time. From what he sees with his bare eyes no one can be found for miles around and nothing else indicates that there is 'another way' to the top of the mountains.
Further to the East of your position is the entrance that separates the South Mountains called 'Death's Mouth', you pause for a second and consider why it is called by that name. You are about less than half a mile from Death's Mouth.
GM: Say what you will do now.
You look at the formidable mountain with disappointment.
You turn back frustrated, mount your patient horses and ride cautiously one mile North and then East so that you pass Death's Mouth about half a mile.
As you ride you do notice that the area around Death's Mouth has been travelled extensively. There are some wagon marks and a lot of horse's hoof prints scattered about.
At the East side you notice the almost horizontal slant and ruggedness of the Mountains are less friendly than what you saw in the West.
GM: 10:00am, say what you will do now.
Kalfie thinks to himself that investigating the wagon tracks is important, so he turns back, leaves the others and rides out alone to Death's Mouth.
Upon reaching you dismount, bend down and inspect the depth of the tracks using your fingers as markers. You estimate that most of the wagons were heavy laden and fewer times they were empty.
As you continue to asses the surroundings you hear a distant thunder towards the South. You look up to see in the distance horses galloping fast towards you. They are moving so swiftly that a great amount of dust is being kicked up behind them. They are mounted with dark clothed figures.
10:30am. Say what you will do now.
Upon seeing the terror coming towards you, immediate impulses activate your being and you jump on your horse with desperation and start riding North. You think of your friends and begin screaming, but you are a far way from them. Only luck would dictate that they can actually hear you or see you for that matter.
GM: Roll dice: "Screaming - Does Anyone Hear?" It is set at 100, you need to get 20 or under to successfully bring attention to yourself. Post your result in Party Order along with what you want to do given the result.
Kalfie Runs
Kalfie's anxious warning of danger go unheeded as he thunders towards the North West. After about five minutes you see turn briefly to see them in pursuit, but you seem to not be getting any further away. After 10 minutes, which seems to be more like an eternity, you find yourself gaining less ground and your pursuers getting closer!
GM: Krakyn, you are now completely separated from the others. You will need to post Party Order for your character alone and then the second leader will have to post Party Order for the others UNTIL you rejoin. Say what you will do now.
In the meantime, Tortdog and Daphne hear a thunderous sound to the West of them. They look to see a swirling mass of dust rising from the ground. At first you think it is some sort of earthquake, but then you see what looks like a small horde of bandits riding hard towards the North.
Immediately you wonder what has happened to Kalfie!
GM: Second leader. Say what you will do now.
Kalfie fears death and continues without hope as he sees the dark hooded men behind him. As they get closer Kalfie starts yelling something unusual in the hope that it will somehow make the situation better for him, but it does not. You can tell that their horses will pass yours soon as they come closer and closer. They are about fifthteen horse lengths from you and then it occurs to you what is slowing you down - you consider your weight. You start throwing what you can from the horse since most of it is tied up.
GM: Say what you will do now. Tell me what you wish to keep only and all the rest I will consider discarded.
Daphne and Tortdog try to remain quiet while Tortdog makes rope traps. They wait to see where the horses are going. As the dust clears you can see no more sign of the horses they have disappeared towards the North West. You breathe a sigh of relief that they are not coming your way, but at the same time wonder if your location is known.
