All I can suggest is for two people to dismount and closely examine the area for footprints and such heading to or away from the mountain and this so-called path. The third person stays mounted with the other two horses and watches for movement from anywhere.
We keep an eye on the horizon in all locations.
Also, I want to look around to see if there is any place I can safely climb that would allow me to see better (without unnecessarily testing my rock climbing skills).
As an alternate (and if you two want me to), I would be willing to start heading up the path, but and attempt something with the grappling hook and rope so long as the height was not more 8 feet or so - just to see if from that height there was an alternate way up this "path" or some other way through that we can't see from where we are now.
No one will climb if is not a most a moderate climb. hook and rope are not part of any plan I have.
So now do we start searching along this side for a passage? GM is asking for specifics here so we are either watched or there is some thing that we might find.
It is possible I question almost though do we need to go through the passage? if the fires are visible from town why could we not just find a spot to hide here in view of the pass see what happens. What evidence are we to find that we can return ?
I say we search as intended to see what we find if no luck we hit back to safer place in the forest closer to town wait till morn and return to search the east side. We will not make it into the mouth day or night it will be closely guarded.
I suggest that one of watches to see where Scout actually heads to. Dust trail must be easy to follow.
I will check in in 3 hours or so and post what you suggest. I think we need to look around for a bit 30minutes or so to 2 hours. If too long we will be spotted.
ooc sorry posted same time so here are my thoughts on what you just mentioned.
I agree we do a quick look of the area for prints check the path if first bit not too high or steep we go that far two looking on on horse keeping eye out. Take action from what is found at that point.

I agree. Two search for a set amount of time. I would like to be one. The other keeps watch.
If we do not find something, I would suggest I try climbing a safe distance on the safest rock nearbye (about 5 or 8 feet as ppears safe) and look to see if something reveals itself.
Barring that, then withdrawing west to a safe spot and perhaps with protection from night predators with no fire seems best. If wolves are a problem here such that we would not survive, then either we return to the village or we make to the forest with a fire protected behind a large tree or rocks from Death's Mouth.
Honestly, I feel we are at a dead end. Scout gives us this path which isn't a path at all. It is a rock climbing route (hint: a path is something you walk on, not something you climb with rope).
We can't go through Death's Mouth by day. We can't find a place to climb and scout a route. So this seems pointless.
Make your decison and post. I'm following you.
How about we go back and demand that Scout show us the PATH as we agreed or he return our money.
While we are here, I climb the 20 safe feet up to look for this path.
One could keep a lookout while another search for tracks. When I finish the short climb, I can help looking for tracks.
If we don't find anything here, before I return to slit scout's throat, I think it might be wise to ride slowly with along the face while one person rides a bit to the north and keeps a lookout for movement.
OOC: Forget about Scout, we are on our own. For me, everything points out that at least one of us must climb that rocky mountain (IF is small enough to do it) or we are missing a detail.
Please be patient with me, I am not 100% these days and is hard to concentrate, you will see me posting here when I get "breaks" during the day and those times when I feel better. Thanks for your understanding.
ooc no problem LDS we can take a break if you need to reconvene when you are better .
I agree one rides up as close to the mountains(Daphne, Kalfie) as we can with one person more north (tortdog). I can be the one to the north if you prefer.
I will post you climb the 20 feet while I look about and Daphne stands guard we are still west of the pass(I am sure where some one fell*red faced*)
