Well, this is interesting because it touches on a question posed recently about adding wiki features to this somehow.
When I post on a forum, I expect a conversation. So while I do not EXPECT a response, I certainly hope for one. (Thus my choice was not offered in the above poll and I chose the closest to my personal reason.) And I think that's entirely reasonable since we best learn through interaction and via teaching people, far better than merely reading an opinion.
If I wanted to read for information, I'd read a treatise on the subject, Google the Internet, or read a scholarly article. But I wouldn't visit here. I would doubt the quality of that article would be here, and it's easier to read on paper than on a screen.
So I post/read forums because I enjoy learning through discourse, and via that interaction learn more than I would otherwise. And I HOPE for a response because it will mean I will likely learn something that day (and grow a relationship). Edited: tortdog on 14th Sep, 2007 - 4:07am
A few of the key things I notice about people who join is that they do not know how to continue a Discussion because:
1. They make a statement and went is challenged they are afraid to defend their argument
2. The get offended too quickly
3. They read everything as directed to them in person and not directed to their point of view, so they retaliate by becoming sarcastic
4. They expect everyone to agree with them
5. They place very bland input and expect everyone to become excited
6. They ask something or add input that has been answered many times (old news) and expect people to react as though it is a new discovery
7. They do not continue the Discussion by giving something new, they repeat themselves constantly.
I tend to wander around so I like to post my opinions or views. If I start a topic it is generally a question about something within the gaming area. If it gets answered that is fine if not then that is fine too. I am not one who gets hung up on waiting for a response. I feel that people have their real life to deal with and if they have time they can respond to what they feel like responding to. I am sure that the question I have or had will either get worked out in one way or another.
Honey, you sure are giving a lot of Feedback for someone who just joined the Community. Don't you think it's better to actually get involved in actual Discussion, get to know how everything works and then give Feedback?
