Jaschan was arrested at his family's home after Microsoft Corp. received a tip from an informant seeking a reward. Exploiting a flaw in the company's Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems, the worm had raced around the world and caused some computers to continually crash and reboot.
Unlike most outbreaks, Sasser did not require users to activate it by clicking on an e-mail attachment. Sasser is known as a network worm because it can automatically scan the Internet for computers with the security flaw and send a copy of itself there.

First off, this guy is simply brilliant, to say he least. He actually developed three viruses in all. One was to combat two other viruses. The second was of course the sassar worm. The third was another version of sassar to combat the existing sassar worm. He did this all to get a programming job and prove his worth as a programmer. After reading the story, I gain that his heart was in the right spot, or at least he was not malicious, because he tried to fix it when he realized how bad things had gotten. I hope that he doesn't get allot of time in jail. People should take this as a learning opportunity and learn to secure your computers better. But they wont, they will all call for his head and foolishly learn nothing from the entire ordeal.
NO JAIL FOR SASSER WORM CREATOR
A German teenager was handed a 21-month suspended sentence Friday for
creating the Sasser worm that infected tens of thousands of computers
around the world.
