Ten Commandments Monuement in Court Building

This has been in the news for a while here, where I live.  But I wasn't quite sure whether to put it here or in the international news board.  But if I have it in the wrong place, I am certain, that someone will place it in the right board for me.  ;)

Rallying 'Round Ten Commandments

Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore told thousands of supporters Saturday that he would be guilty of treason if he didn't fight to keep a monument of the Ten Commandments in the rotunda of the state judicial building.

Drawing cheers and shouts of "amen" at a rally, Moore said his crusade to keep the 5,300-pound monument was not about bolstering his own political career, as some have claimed.

"Let's get this straight. It's about the acknowledgment of God," Moore said in front of the Alabama Capitol.

Many I have talked to have argued and made the statement about separation of church and state.  What are your thoughts on this?

I think that the judge should be allowed to keep the Ten Commandments Monument in the court building where he is a judge.

The US can be so silly, they argue about trivial matters while people go hungry in the streets and terrorist are trying to find ways to kill their citizens? I will answer this with a question... On what basis was the US constitution formed? Or in other words men are under who's supreme power? If it be God, then why can't we pay homage to him in our own way. If it is not stopping someone else from worshipping their God then what is the big deal?

I don't know  the whole US constitution but I do know they use the word 'God' a lot and the past US leaders formed the constitution under that basis, what's the big deal about it now? do they want to change the US constitution or what? :

The word "God" was used in the Declaration of Independence.  The Constitution was written to prohibit government endorsement of a specific religion - it's the anti-establishment clause of the First Amendment that is at issue here. Legally he's on shaky ground but he is certainly free as an individual to take his stand.  I will be very interested in the outcome of this.

I still think that they should keep it.  I remember reading that the higher courts ruled for the judge to have the monument removed from the premises.  The judge then filed an appeal.  Which was also ruled on and the judge was told again to remove it from the courthouse.  I don't see where the monument of the Ten Commandments is hurting anyone.  But then again, I forget about those types of people out there that probably think that the Ten Commandments are being forced on them.  Those are the same people that have taken religion out of the schools.  After this, what will be next?  The removal of the saying 'In God We Trust' on the US money?  -->

Chief Justice Roy Moore asked the U.S. Supreme Court to block the removal of a Ten Commandments monument from the state judicial building Wednesday as supporters held a candlelight vigil to begin a round-the-clock protest. Moore, who was turned back twice Tuesday by a federal appeals panel, filed a motion Wednesday asking the Supreme Court to stay an order for the monument's removal by the end of the day.

They are going to remove the monument from the court building and suspended the judge for disobeying the Supreme Court's rulings.

Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore was suspended Friday pending the outcome of an ethics complaint for defying a federal court order to move a Ten Commandments monument from the rotunda of the Alabama Supreme Court building.

The plaintiffs who sought the monument's removal -- Stephen Glassroth and Melinda Maddox -- filed the complaint with the state judicial board of inquiry, arguing that Moore is guilty of judicial misconduct for failing to carry out a court order.

The complaint charges that Moore, a Republican, failed "to respect and comply with the law" and "willfully failed to comply with an existing and binding court order directed at him."

Suspended Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore vowed to fight to keep his job and to keep a massive Ten Commandments monument in the state judicial building's rotunda after police barricaded the building's doors Monday.

"I stand before the Court of the Judiciary because I've done my oath. I've kept my oath. I have acknowledged God as the moral foundation of our law," Moore told cheering supporters outside the building Monday afternoon.

Other Moore supporters filed a lawsuit Monday in federal court in Mobile in a last-ditch bid to prevent the carved stone monument from being moved.
