Magsley asks Wanderer of her knowledge and map making abilities, When Scout offers his services as a guide.
It is quickly decided to hire Scout to lead us through the unknown lands to the Death Mountains were the fires are reported.
Magsley pays scout 25 gp and Daphne 5 gp for Scout's services.
Magsley starts administering daily the potions from the Snake Venom Flask as required till complete as per the instructions he received when it was purchased.
The new Walking/Riding Order will be
Who will be in the lead: Scout
Who will be second in lead: Magsley (krakyn)
Who will be in second from rear:Wanderer
Who will be in the rear: Daphne (LDS_forever)
Who will negotiate for the party: Magsley(krakyn)
Following Scout's lead the group travels at a comfortable gait. Watching for signs of trouble and passage of other groups of travelers. They will travel stopping for rations as required at suitable locations that would provide some cover, fresh water, grazing for the horses when possible.
Magsley decides to attempt to draw up a map to the best he can as they go. So as to make any findings more meaningful for others when they report back to the village.
Noting Daphne's predicament Magsley digs out 7 gp more.
Handing them to Scout he says" I do apologize as leader I should have ascertained Daphne's financial state prior us departing."
"Aye we do have some questions Scout."
Magsley proceeds to ask Scout the following questions.
1) Do you know where any shelter that could taken for the night on the other side of the Death Mouth?
2) Is it best to stay near tree line or bear due south with caution once through the Death Mouth?
3) What beasts and tracks they would lay that we need to watch for?
4) Any thing you have heard of the fires on the other side of the Death Mouth?
5) Position of Rivers or fresh water sources in the lands we are to explore?
6) Do you know approximately how many men are around Death Mouth?
7) What type of equipment they possess?
8) Is there any shortcuts we can use where there is no or less danger?
9) What tactic do you suggest for crossing Death Mouth?
10) Can you provide any tips to make it through safely?
"Many thanks for the information Scout...May your god keep your journey safe."
Turning to Wanderer he asks "I have no question of your prowess with a blade...How be ye at climbing rocks?".
Given the information from Scout it is decided the only way to continue is to climb. Magsley while waiting on Wanderers reply so group order can be decided, looks for the most plausible path over the rocky craig. Hopes that his mining experience will aid him now.
It is realized haste must be made so as to obtain better ground prior dark.
Looking south at Death's mouth an idea forms.
*shaking head at Wanderer* mumbles"No meat indeed! We shall see when the time comes who makes the best score"*grins to himself*
Turns to Daphne "East then south is my thought." Points to where the mountains turn more north. "Perhaps the bend will give more access while staying a reasonable distance from the Deaths mouth."
Daphne doubts, she thinks for a minute and says "Okay, let's try East and then South as you suggested, I trust in your climbing abilities".
The trio heads East then turns south in attempt to avoid being seen by any who dwell near the Death's Mouth.
As they travel a sharp look out for scouts or other parties is kept.
As they get closer to the mountains the easiest apparent passes are made note of as well as any possible place to hide their horses.
After a moment of discussion it is decided the group will continue to the foot of the mountains. On route a most plausible path is sought to gain access to the mountains. Also a hiding spot for the horses. While keeping a sharp look out for other travelers.
Upon arrival Magsley will take Grappling hook, rope, hammer and spikes and his sling and axe. He will seek a path that will give him a view of deaths mountain to see what or who lie in wait as well a a safest route for the group. His horse left entrusted to Daphne's care.
