Real-life 'Amityville' owner horrified by his portrayal in new film

Why didn't he sue when the first movie came out? The man in that one was a homicidal maniac as well. I think he is now suing because this movie made millions as opposed to the less lucrative first movie. No one is going to look down on him because of the way he was portrayed in a fictional horror movie. Most people don't even believe that the story could have really happened. I certainly don't buy into the idea of a real haunted house. I am a skeptic, as allot of people are, and don't look down on him at all. I also understand the difference between real life and the movies. Most adults can see the difference and don't equate movie portrayals to real life.

That is the exact same thing I thought about when I saw this thread. However, besides those that are sane there are the nut crackers out there who do research, follow and become overly familiar with things, and maybe (a big maybe) that happened to him.

Originally it was supposed to be a book, the movie was made all Hollywood and strayed from the actual account. They may have not sued for any number of reasons. One being they might have signed something and got money to allow their image to be used in the film.

I saw an interview that was done with him and his wife in the film, History's Mysteries: Amityville: The Haunting. They seemed genuine in everything they said. Also many details of what they said could not have been known.

Spoiler alert: I am going to talk about scenes from the film.

Some of the strange things I could not explain were, the wife found a small room painted all red hidden behind a shelf in the basement. This room is not in the blueprints of the house and the dog would not go near it.

A local priest who was doing a blessing of the house was slapped by some unknown force when in a certain room. A voice told him to get out. Why would a priest make this up? There is not a whole lot to gain from making that up.

The wife who was being interviewed also said she had a strong nightmare were she experienced the killing. Her account of the nightmare corresponds exactly with the real scene, even though none of that information had been available.

Also they took a huge hit on the house. They lived in it for a very short time and left all of their belongings their when they moved out. That to me sounds like they were really afraid of the house and did not want anything to do with it. Wanting to get away from it as soon as possible.

I don't know, I think if you believe in God why wouldn't you believe in spirits. Evil or Good it is highly possible such a thing exists. What they said about the house and accounts from various people make me think this is the real thing.

After doing further poking around it seems this was probably a fake after all. At Source 8 it has some information saying that the defense lawyer of the murderer, a writer, and the family that bought the house. All had planned behind closed doors to create the book.

When the priest was asked in a court of law about the slap and voice he denied it happening.

One question still remains for me. How did the murderer shoot the entire family with a rifle while they lie asleep in bed? Why didn't anyone hear the gunshots?
