The Senate has approved a nearly $1 trillion farm bill after years of negotiation.
The compromise measure already approved by the House would end direct payments to farmers in favor of expanded crop insurance and cut $8 billion from the food stamp program. The bill now goes to President Barack Obama for his signature. Ref. CNN
