CAFTA Expected to Benefit U.S. Consumers
AP - U.S. shoppers should get a price break on shirts and pants made in Central America. American farmers and manufacturers are hoping to gain new sales in the region. U.S. sugar growers, however, are fretting about increased competition now that Congress has passed and sent to the president a trade deal that eliminates barriers between the United States and Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

I like the idea of free trade between all these countries. I think that in the end, it will help the other countries thrive and help lower prices for the US. Of course US farmers are worried about competition. This will stimulate competition and bring the prices down. There does need to be something done about wages in the other countries so as to prevent slave wage workers that would allow other countries to sell at a much lower price.
