Although there are claims that the ball has not lost it's signal yet I am curious as to the design, since the constant kicking must disrupt the accuracy and or effectiveness of the chip.

An update to this discussion. The 'smartball' will not be used in the upcoming World Cup tournament in Germany. FIFA stated that the ball would need to undergo more testing, and that it was not ready for World Cup play just yet. One of the major challenges is what JB has already attested too, in that the ball goes through a lot of 'hitting', and for the signal to work correctly, the chip has to remain in the center of the ball.
