FIFA INTRODUCES THE 'SMARTBALL'
LIMA: It looks just like any ordinary football but the Adidas "smartball" that makes its official debut in the Fifa Under-17 world championship in Peru later this week could change the face of soccer forever.

The ball works through the use of a chip that relays an encrypted code via antenna whenever the goal line is passed
An update to this discussion. The 'smartball' will not be used in the upcoming World Cup tournament in Germany. FIFA stated that the ball would need to undergo more testing, and that it was not ready for World Cup play just yet. One of the major challenges is what JB has already attested too, in that the ball goes through a lot of 'hitting', and for the signal to work correctly, the chip has to remain in the center of the ball.
