I suppose these are one of the risks of participating in these drug trials. The drug being tested was TGN1412, which is being developed for leukemia and similar ailments. Hopefully this is a case of contamination and not a real problem for the drug, because if it is, the drug may never reach the market, even if the problem is fixed.
Trials Clinical
Living this close to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Centre, we have so many advertisements in the newspaper for both drug trials and experimental procedures that I think sometimes people make their living being human guinea pigs! Also, as Dartmouth is a teaching hospital (meaning they are a medical university too) they are even more apt to have clinical trials that one can participate in and be compensated. I'm too much of a chicken, I guess!
