Imagine the following scenario, you come into contact with a single man / woman at church that has the absolute most perfect smile, poise and look that you have ever seen. He / she is very nice and strong in the faith and your interaction with them has been very good. Then one day you learn that he / she is engaged to a person that you think is 'less' than they are worth. However the minister of your church thinks they make a wonderful couple and you see them making plans for their big day. You feel that you would be a fool to let this person go off to marry another person besides yourself, but the question is, will you let them know how you feel and risk breaking up an engagement?
Although I'm fairly outspoken generally, when it comes to matters of love I'm rather shy. I might inquire of the object of my affection what qualities his future wife has that make him so enamored of her -- in a polite way, you understand, so that I could have a better idea of why he felt strongly enough to marry her. If he can't name at least 5 important things, I would probably suggest he think twice.
Asking him to consider me as a replacement would have to come much later
