I guess we should be thankful that anyone survived in those kind of conditions. But at least they did the smart thing thing by hanging on to the wings and suit cases, and they where able to survive to tell about the event. I am happy that they survived, despite how tragic it was that 13 people died.
If I survived a plane crash I would start getting people out and grabbing the seat cushions as floatation devices. I would try to gather anything that is floating to use to assist others in staying afloat. If I have enough time I would ransack the plane to find any survival stuff such as a raft or two and grab all the food and water I could.
Speaking for myself, if I knew we were flying over water I would get myself ready to swim. That would mean removing clothing that might drag me down. If I knew we were going to be in cold weather then I might reach and keep the blankets they give you on the plane. I would also put my hands around my head and tuck because a lot of debris is going to start flying around and if you're hit in the head you're automatically done right there.
