Schily Hopes for Additional Means against Terror

Berlin. Minister of the Interior Schily is of the opinion that German security forces still lack hold on terrorists. In his first summary of the work of the anti-terror-center in Berlin, Schily stated that this institution improved the collaboration between federal and state forces, leading to heightened structure, effectiveness, and speed. The minister now announced additional authorities for the Federal Criminal Police Office, and also deemed protective custody a necessity. Several Union politicians, however, criticized Schily's refusal to combine police and secret services. The split of the Terror Defense Center in two is leading to inefficient work, was the consensus of Bavaria's and Brandenburg's ministers of the interior, Beckstein and Schoenbohm.

I don't view this as a lack of effort on Germanies part as it is a lack of impact. Once someone you know or even yourself has a major terrorist attack on them, you tend to be more diligent about it. Realistically, how much did America or Britain care about terrorism until the US got attacked? And then even more when Britains subway stations got bomb? When it hits close to home, your more ept to do something dynamic about it.

* The three charged are devout believers in Islam
* The three had training in Pakistan my Islamic militants

What were their jobs? Nothing. Rather, they proclaimed themselves as "unemployed" and were drawing government welfare checks. But they were employed. They were making bombs to kill Germans and Americans.

On NPR there was some concern that America is the cause of increased terrorism - basically because America is going after terrorism and making it bad for Europe.
