I am neither an owner or a manager, but I am a process engineer.
I purposely outsource some processes. That is, I define heat treatment and initial cutting processes to be done outside of my company. When doing that, I approved a company out of Korea to cut and process some of my blanks. They could definitely do the job better and much cheaper than I could get it done in house.
Outsourcing is done by every manufacturer, in some way or other. I don't know of any company that does everything from mining to milling to casting to cutting to finishing to assembly to marketing. At the very least, a manufacturing company purchases raw material from an outside source, and usually purchases many individual parts.
So, I think outsourcing is vital. Doing it outside of the native country is simply something that each company must decide for themselves.
