Former Missouri Tigers defensive end and 2014 NFL draft entrant Michael Sam announced today in interviews with ESPN and The New York Times that he is gay.

"We admire Michael Sam's honesty and courage. We look forward to welcoming and supporting Michael Sam in 2014," Said NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello via Twitter. Ref.

Its sad that we have to live in a world where people feel pressured to say what their sexual preferences are, this should not matter once you perform well in whatever task you're given be it sports or otherwise. Even so congratulations to Michael Sam for taking a brave stance.

The St. Louis Rams have announced that Michael Sam, the first openly gay player to be drafted into the NFL, has been waived and did not make the team's final 53-man roster.

Sam, an All-American defensive end who played at the University of Missouri, made history when he was picked by the Rams in the seventh and final round. He was the 249th of 256 players selected. Ref. CNN
