Thank you for the link to the pictures, JB. That was a really awesome slide show.

After viewing the photos, I realize why the rescue effort took a couple of days to get going -- at least in New Orleans. Downtown New Orleans looked basically okay immediately after the storm hit. It didn't start flooding there until Day 4, and I'm sure most in "authority" felt it was going to be fine. The people who were in the city obviously felt that all was well. The rescuers diverted their efforts to other, harder hit areas. It really is a shame to see how things happened.

I can't even begin to comment on the racial issues.

I don't even know what to think about this little item:
We had to kill our patients

    QUOTE
Doctors working in hurricane-ravaged New Orleans killed critically ill patients rather than leaving them to die in agony as they evacuated hospitals, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

I can understand why these medical professionals did what they did. I just don't know if I could do the same thing.

I was in a hurricane in Tonga in 2002, an unexpected surprise ushering the new year. I was on one of the outer islands at a family reunion but I know that although it was scary but my family had the assurance that we would survive. Although we were victims that year but I could not imagine the heartache and the loss of loved ones of Katrina survivors. At school as part of international news time, it was very hard to explain things to 6 year olds..but parents have allowed these children to view images on the news and these 6 year olds were very sad and really wanted to do all that they could to help. It may take a while but I know that the people of New Orleans will rebuild their city and return home!

While Katrina has brought out the best in a lot of people, the thousands and even millions who have gone out of their way to help, it has also brought the absolute worst out from others. Here is a blog post of some of the worst, most despicable things people have been saying since the hurricane:
    https://www.rightwingnews.com/archives/week...9_11.PHP#004409
Not all of these despicable things come from Democrats or Leftists. I condemn the conservatives and Republicans for their callousness as well.

"You literally cannot continue to exist unless we blue-staters give you money. The situation is that simple. You have been leeching off of us for years, and now you depend on our charity for your very lives. So if you Jesusmaniac simpletons really want that cash, you will just sit there and SHUT UP and not say ONE D@MN WORD in your defense. BUSH CAUSED THIS DISASTER. YOU CAUSED THIS DISASTER BY VOTING FOR BUSH. You don't like that message? Then don't take our money! If I read ONE MORE article in which a science-hating red state pundit attacks progressives, I'm going to take the money I was going to donate to disaster relief and spend it on a nice Thai meal. And I'm going to suggest that all other progressives do likewise. I'm going to say "DROWN AND DIE, YOU ARROGANT HILLBILLY SOUTHERN-FRIED LEECHES!" -- Joseph Cannon from Cannonfire explains his views on disaster relief

    QUOTE
"This accusation that the levees were blown for political reasons fits with an overall pattern consistantly persued by this administration. Indeed, it fits with the objectives outlined by many in the neo-con camp, with the past support of the Bush family of eugenics, and with the recent callous remarks..." -- Daily Kos Diarist Brenda speculates that the levees in New Orleans were deliberately blown to flood the city

There are more. The original list is 20 of these. Then there is a bonus from Louis Farrakhan.
    QUOTE
"FEMA is too white to represent us and so is the Red Cross, so we're going to demand our place at the table." -- Louis Farrakhan

    FAITH AMONG THE RUINS

The Rev. Rob Dewey saw them on the streets of New York after Sept. 11, 2001, and he is seeing them again amid the wreckage of the Gulf Coast -- everywhere, signs of faith.
