Here is a great little list of items having to do with President Bush and the hurricanes. I have been reading all sorts of conspiracy stuff about how the President either caused the problems in New Orleans, added to them, or wanted all the black people to die from the problems there.
Here is a little bit of common sense about it.

A few truths, for those who have ears and eyes and care to know the truth: 1.) The hurricane that hit New Orleans and Mississippi and Alabama was an astonishing tragedy. The suffering and loss of life and peace of mind of the residents of those areas is acutely horrifying. 2.) George Bush did not cause the hurricane. Hurricanes have been happening for eons. George Bush did not create them or unleash this one. 3.) George Bush did not make this one worse than others. There have been far worse hurricanes than this before George Bush was born. 4.) There is no overwhelming evidence that global warming exists as a man-made phenomenon. There is no clear-cut evidence that global warming even exists. There is no clear evidence that if it does exist it makes hurricanes more powerful or makes them aim at cities with large numbers of poor people. If global warming is a real phenomenon, which it may well be, it started long before George Bush was inaugurated, and would not have been affected at all by the Kyoto treaty, considering that Kyoto does not cover the world's worst polluters -- China, India, and Brazil. In a word, George Bush had zero to do with causing this hurricane. To speculate otherwise is belief in sorcery.... |

Well it looks like they are not going to be sympathetic with those who participated in what some see as a time of compassion. This is a tough thing to decide since 'the law is the law' under any circumstance:
DOZENS SUBPOENAED IN HOSPITAL DEATHS
Louisiana Attorney General Charles Foti Jr. has issued 73 subpoenas in an investigation into allegations that euthanasia may have taken place at one of the hospitals flooded by Hurricane Katrina, he told CNN Wednesday night. CNN's Drew Griffin broke this story. Today he's live in New Orleans with the latest on the investigation.

I agree with you Farseer, I think euthanasia is perfetly humane especially for those suffering a terminal illness or in situations like this.
Nighthawk, are people really blaming Bush for causing the hurricane? I know the guy is powerful but that is one the strangest conspiracy theories I've heard in a long while.
I do feel sorry for Bush in situations like this because this was a freak natural disaster and the problem with New Orleans' levy system must have been known for many Administrations before the current one.

Yes, there are actually a rather large group of people who blame Bush for Katrina, since he refused to sign the Kyoto treaty. Some of them have claimed that he purposely withheld federal aid (although he mobilized federal assets BEFORE the hurricane) in order to kill poor black people. Leaders among the Nation of Islam and other radical black organizations have claimed that he (Bush) ordered explosives planted at the sea walls to cause them to collapse, in order to destroy the homes of poor, liberal black people.
Of course, these same people refuse to recognize, as does the national and international press corps, that the Governor of Louisiana refused for several days to allow federal emergency response teams to enter the state.
Finally, federal money has been given to the state and the city for over 20 years to improve the levy and sea wall system. The state has consistently rerouted that money for other projects.

It sounds like too many people have turned a blind eye to poor old New Orleans. But to blame Bush for a hurricane is hillarious. I often wonder how people who make such ridiculous allegations are ever taken seriously?
