Enemy At The Gates

This is a great movie, but then again I am biased because I love war movies in general. This is about a Russian sniper that became a war hero for his country against the Nazis. It really shows you what snipers have to go through and the terror that is war itself, best of all it was based on a true story. What did you think about it?

Gates The Enemy

I cant quite put my finger on why, but this movie just didn't stay with me. Perhaps its because every war movie made now has realistic violence and a realistic situation. While the movie was very intense and at times very saddening, it lacked something that could connect me with the main character. At the end of the movie, I didn't sympathize with the sniper, I couldn't FEEL his plight. Again, my opinion, and I cannot put my finger on why this movie didn't really stick with me. But my friends and my father loved it, so maybe it was just me.

It could be that we do not learn much about the central character other than the wolf scene although that in itself proved why he was so good at what he did. The Russian politician was fantastic and we must consider that the sniper was just a country boy and nothing more until he was made a hero by the politician.
