Hi everybody!
This is AlaskanLDS for DrPat--we are still trying to work out this RISK situation for him. It seems all is well until he goes into his screen to where you would normally see a map--but all it shows is numbers all over (I am assuming where they are placed on the map) I will go and see what else I can do but if you are on JB and could let me know what might be causing it that would be great!
First, I sent an Email to DrPat, several in fact but never got a reply, so that is the first place he needs to check. I see yahoo is being used, so make sure this followed to ensure you get Emails: Source 9
Second, that sounds to me like a browser issue, however you have not provided me with any information for me to help. I need to know:
1. Which Browser you are using and version
2. What kind of internet connection you are using and speed
3. Do you have javascript enabled / behind a firewall?
4. Are using a proxy to connect to the net or is it a direct connection?
5. What kind of computer - is it up to date?
Barring the above you can test what is happening by:
a. If using IE, go to the page where you are supposed to see the map and hold down the CTRL key, while doing that click on the refresh button until the page loads fully
Or
b. Go to the Computer Board, you will see an option at the top for the FireFox Browser, use that and download it. Then go to your account and see if you get the same result.
Thanks for the reply JB!
I don't have all the information you asked but have given what Dad & I know between us. I am going to see if I can pop over there later today and figure out the rest and try what you suggested. Dad said he was having problems with IE through our internet carrier and they put him on Firefox and he hasn't had any problems since. Not sure if the problems were here or in general.
Also, one thing I figured out after I wrote yesterday was that when he joins the game it DOES show the map. It disappears though when the game is started and he is to place his initial armies. That is when the numbers show up. Dad and I also noticed that they show up on ours for a second and then the map fills in right away. I will let you know more after I get the rest of the information!

1. Which Browser you are using and version Internet Explorer[--I think it is the latest version but will need to verify/B] 2. What kind of internet connection you are using and speed [B]DSL--not sure about the speed but will check 3. Do you have javascript enabled / behind a firewall? Have to go and check 4. Are using a proxy to connect to the net or is it a direct connection? Direct Connection 5. What kind of computer - is it up to date? HP and is updated to XP and the browsers plus adobe are all up to date. |
IE is generally a problem. The reason is it has a terrible cache. Use the method above to clear the cache, but if I were you I would just use FireFox because it has an excellent cache and will load all pages faster.
Lastly, if you see numbers it is because the images are not loading properly to replace those numbers, the problem is on your end, not the game's, get FireFox.
Small Correction
Fixed a CSS error that caused the login table to left align. It should be in the right place now. To see the change:
IE: hold down CTRL key and click refresh
Firefox: hold down SHIFT key and click refresh
Keep a note of how you clear your browser's cache for the page you are on, it is valuable knowledge in case you are on ANY page that is showing you old content or that has not loaded properly.
I just got a Guest message with the user claiming to be Roadkill:

Name: Roadkill Comments: We are still attempting to get drpat up and running without any success so far. We have installed firefox 3 without any change in the appearence of the game board. When we open the game it does not show the map of the world, only the number 1 in each of what would be territories. He has an HP laptop running Windows XP. He hooked up via a DSL connection. Any suggestions? We need help |

First, I'm sorry DrPat is still experiencing problems, however I can only help if you ACTIVELY follow-up with my suggestions and then reply with what your findings are, for instance: |
Yes I gathered that the computer proficiency is not there, AND you are NOT bothering me, but I need all the questions I asked answered to assist. For instance are they behind a firewall? Do they have javascript enabled? Did they log into DrPat's account outside of his connection? In other words go to a computer that is not DrPat's and not DrPat's DSL and then login. Answers to these will answer:
1. Is it DrPat's ISP stopping sessions
2. Is it DrPat's firewall blocking something
3. Is it something unique to DrPat's account
I really want to help DrPat, but I need ALL the info, not just part and not via different methods. Please let them login here and update me in one place since using Guest / Emails and so forth does not seem to work. Thank you for your understanding.
