Mushrooms

How often do you use mushrooms in your favorite recipes? Do you prefer the white, mixed, brown or black variety?

MUSHROOMS CAN MAKE A SATISFYING MAIN DISH

Cultivated mushrooms are not only sliced in salads and cooked in sauces, they can even be the main ingredient of a dish.

Portobello mushrooms are the best! I love to just sautee them and eat them plain. Mushrooms are perfect in my salads, on steak, and even in fajitas. To me, mushrooms are the perfect fungus to go with so many foods. My wife hates them. When we make smothered chicken, she won't touch them, but I will heap mushrooms on my smothered chicken. Chicken and mushrooms go together very nicely.

My mom loves mushrooms, so growing up she put them in a lot of meals, but I have never liked them, cooked or uncooked. Except for on one occasion! One of my college roommates had to organize and cater a buffet for a final culinary project at BYU-I, and she had stuffed mushrooms as part of it. I thought, what the heck, and I had one and it was quite good! That is the only mushroom I have ever liked. So maybe that just means I should give them more of a chance smile.gif .

I just love mushrooms, my favorite would be chicken steak with fried mushrooms and fried onions, or best steak with mashed potatoes, fried onions, fried mushrooms and gravy, yummy!
my husband loves mushrooms too, and tends to use them a lot when he is cooking.
Last night for example, he made weak gravy, and then liquidized fried onions and fried mushrooms into it, the gravy thickened up, and was really tasty!

Mushrooms

When a kid, I didn't eat mushrooms at all, even fished them out of the mushroom soup (and still liked it a lot, on mushroom broth but without mushrooms!)

Later, when a teen, I tried salted mushrooms that I avoided before and liked them. It took about 5 years until I got to liking practically all mushroom dishes that I never ate before. Probably while you're growing up, tastes change.
I only don't like pickled mushrooms now, but then again I don't like any pickled things.

Now my favourite 'shroom dishes:
- pancakes with chicken-mushroom-herbs-cream sauce filling. Yummy!
- mushroom julienne (mushrooms - sometimes with chicken - in cheese and sour cream sauce);
- my favourite mushroom soup (Russian style: boletus, potatoes, carrots, pearl-barley, onions, made on mushroom broth, served with sour cream. Delicious!);
- salted mushrooms (milk-agarics, chantereless, honey agarics);
- mushroom pies (puff pastry, filled with mushrooms in cream sauce, sometimes with chicken);
- mushrooms (chantereless, milk agarics) fried with onions and potatoes, served with sour cream;
- cream soup (champignons) when made good is also nice.
