California Culture
The capital of California is Sacramento and the State was admitted to the Union on: September 9, 1850. Feel free to discuss the Culture & Traditions of California within this thread.
California is the land of sunshine and beaches! While portraying beautiful girls and fast cars in almost every TV show in CA, the state is realistically known for many other things. Hollywood owns California boasting one of its own as the governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. The infamous San Andreas fault has been the subject of many movies and mini-series.
Ah, California. I have a love-hate relationship with Cali. From the ancient redwood forests of Northern California, to the shimmering beaches of Southern California, it is a fascinating, amazing state.
There has long been a smallish movement to divide the state into North and South, to better meet the the great diversity of needs and agendas of the two halves; however, it's never been seriously on the ballot.

Konq, that problem is not isolated to California by any means. Minnesota had a self-ascribed vampire running for office until they found out he was using the name of a dead person! As for California, I think many states are looking at it with less credibility seeing that Schwarzenegger is it's governor. I heard recently he was making a plea to once again have 2 NFL teams in Los Angeles. They can't even keep one why should they have 2?

Sorry, Konq, we're not the only ones with kooks. Didn't a former professional wrestler serve as governer of Minnesota? I'm sure if we took a look at the roster of candidates for every state, there would be at least one that stood out as a little off-center.
In the meantime, it will be interesting to see what California decides this year. There are already signs littering the roads looking for support of this candidate or that, and the main theme seems to be "illegal immigration," not surprisingly.
With high gas prices, outrageous home prices, and high taxes, California's political candidates have plenty of fodder for debate.

From what I have heard most people from California have no clue what life is really like as compared to the other US states. Everything for them is based on the glamour of Hollywood and teeny bopper magazines.
I do not live in California Gossip but I went there before, the statement seem to be pretty silly. California is not "Hollywood" most of Cali is just "normal"...lots and lots, did I say lots? of Hispanics all around. Very friendly people. I loved it when I went there.
