Detox & Rehab
Is Detox & Rehab the same thing or different?
Detoxification is different than rehabilitation for sure. If a person gets taken detox, they're there for the night, or however long it takes for them to get their system clean, be it from alcohol or another type of drug. Once a person has gone through detox, they are released. When they are admitted into detox, they will usually have an assessment done on them, be it the CAGE or MAST, but it's pretty much useless because if they are in detox, they are going to come out with an incredibly high score. Once they are released, there really isn't anything to keep them from continuing their use.
Now, rehabilitation is when they are getting treated for their abuse/addiction. Usually an abuser will start off in a residential program (Generally 28 days because that is what insurance will cover) where they go through the detox process but then begin going through rehab to regain power over their lives. While they are in rehab, there are many different types of counseling they will go through. Most rehabs incorporate AA/NA within their programs, as well as having seminars on usage, and family therapy can be an option.
To sum it up: Detox is a very short term, non-commital program that simply allows a person to sober up over night, and rehab is the actual treatment.
People who are in detox will usually get a referral to rehab.
