
New York's MoMa acquires Matisse unseen since 1970
Reuters - A valuable painting by Henri Matisse that disappeared into private hands more than 30 years ago has been acquired by New York's Museum of Modern Art which said on Thursday it would put it on show this month.

I think someone probably had to die and pass the painting on to someone else who decided to sell it. Thirty years is a long time to hold onto a painting of this caliber and then sell it. It doesn't seem likely that money would be the reason for the sale being that they had to be rich when they bought it and probably enough to leave a sizable inheritance.
