I would first of all like you to note that this thread is NOT the same as Preparing for Torture located in the Military Tactics Board. Within this thread I wish to discuss how one copes / survives torture.
We read many stories about military captives being tortured for information, but then there are also civilians who are also in this same boat. They find themselves trapped, unable to move and are at the mercy of their captors. How does one deal with this? Does pain become different when inflicted? Are there changes in blood composition and chemicals? Does adrenalin heighten or endormorphins become more ready to be dispersed throughout the body? What about when those physical 'helps' have become depleted due to starvation?

Wow! This is quite a topic. I have never really been tortured in the classic sense, but I have read many stories of it from others, most especially prisoners of war. I think, many of them turned to God for their sustenance when the torture was not in process.
When the physical stuff was happening, I think those successful in enduring it, found a place mentally to retreat to during the worst of it. At least, that is what I have read.
