Hi
JB, I appreciate your thoughts! My boss has asked me not to do anything until her work situation gets too dire, as she doesn't want to lose me, but by asking this, it's kind of left me in 'limbo' wondering if for one her business is going to pick up and two, whether we're going to get through
Christmas with my job.At the moment, I am classed as a 'specialist' nanny, as one of the boys that I look after has severe special needs, to the extent that he is 4, cannot talk, and has to be spoon fed. This is one of the main reasons that my boss doesn't want me to go--and I'm reluctant to go early as in reality, she is a fantastic boss, and we get along more like friends.
Having said that, you are spot on, as this is the line of approach that I have decided to take for my next job, and this is why I'm not getting too worried as employers seem to be crying out for a nanny with experience of children with special needs and the pay is significantly higher. In Manchester also, a new agency has opened up that only deals with finding nannies for children with special needs.
My husband is a trained residential social worker.
I think now that I have got some prior warning, I can start to adjust and be prepared for if/when it happens.
Failing all else, I might just look at opening my own nanny service it's a good suggestion. Thanks for the idea.
Best wishes, Diane.
